Eight Wall Stretches To Instantly Improve Your Day

Course Description | Eight Wall Stretches To Instantly Improve Your Day

What’s the quickest way to release stress and boost your mood amidst the fast pace of modern life? 

This calming series of eight wall-supported yoga postures will open up your entire body, flush out lactic acid, stress, and other toxins, and reset your nervous system.

Think Vitamin B shot for the mind, body, and soul!

The beauty of this sequence lies in its simplicity: even if you have just a few moments to spare and only a wall at your disposal, you can still experience relaxation and rejuvenation.

Why I Designed This eLearning Asset

Historically, healthcare providers are trained to sacrifice their own health and wellbeing in the service of others. Medical school students in particular are trained to overwork, to take work home, and to treat their personal lives as superfluous.

As Wellness Specialist at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine, I responsible for initiating a culture shift: in which HEALTHY physicians are BETTER physicians, in which attending to one’s own wellbeing improves one’s ability to connect and communicate with patients, improving diagnostic efficacy and overall health outcomes. My wellbeing initiatives would improve provider-customer relations and enhance organizational growth.

In this high-stress environment, it was essential that my wellbeing initiatives were FUN, ACCESSIBLE and PERSONALIZED, available 24-7 to users so they could introduce wellbeing into their daily routine without adding more work to their daily routine.

Wellness Wednesdays

Originally, I offered a monthly Wellness Wednesday session open to the entire medical school community. This was scheduled for two hours, from 11 am-1 pm. On each half hour, I offered a guided stretch session, instructing participants on the health benefits of each pose. I designed this eLearning course as a complement to the in-person sessions and as a gift to participants—so they could “indulge” in wellness at work and at home, with their patients and their families. I wanted wellness to be an opportunity to connect, grow trust, and get to know each other as whole persons.

Each HOT DOG workout is guaranteed to open up your entire body, dig deep into core strength you didn’t know you had, flush out lactic acid, stress, and other toxins, and reset your nervous system.

Each routine features fresh takes on 5 classic yoga poses from my go-to STRENGTH + STRETCH library: Down Dog, Plank, Up Dog, Low Lunge, Warrior, Forward Fold, Pigeon, Puppy, and Ragdoll.

All in 10-20 minutes!

You’ll leave stronger, happier, and more confident: ready to tackle whatever personal and/or professional challenges are facing you off the mat!

Why I Designed This eLearning Asset

My agenda is WELLNESS through an ABUNDANCE FOR ALL lens. I am on a mission to make fitness FUN, ACCESSIBLE, and AFFORDABLE for EVERYONE!

Originally, I offered a FREE, 6-week bootcamp for the Selby Public Library, designed to help community members who can’t afford boutique gym or yoga studio memberships get fit together.

I designed this eLearning course as a complement to the in-person sessions and as a gift to participants—so they could “indulge” in wellness on their own at home. I wanted wellness to be an opportunity to connect, grow trust, and get to know each other as whole persons.

the AB FAB 30 Day CORE + MORE Challenge

Course Description | the HOT DOG 9 Day STRENGTH + STRETCH Challenge

Each workout features fresh takes on 3 classic core moves, with 3 rounds of work, all in 9 minutes or less and guaranteed to dig deep into core strength you didn’t know you had! 

These mini workouts will work all the way around your core, incorporating your abs, lower back, glutes, quads, shoulders, and more. 

You’ll trim your waistline, flatten your abdominal wall, lift and round your butt, tune inward, flush out toxins, and boost your mood. 

Along the way, you’ll get some fitness inspiration and learn how to use simple props like the wall and a yoga block (or light book or canned good) to next level the moves you’ve been doing on the mat. 

Why I Designed This eLearning Asset

I noticed that the current fad in boutique fitness is to offer circuit-style training with an emphasis on strength and cardio, with very little attention to the muscles that support our posture when we do plyometrics and lift heavy weights. Members were getting injured, plateauing, and complaining of sore lower backs.

My solution: to introduce bite-size doses of core into their fitness regime.

Originally, I offered a 5-minute abdominal session at the end of each circuit.

I designed this eLearning course as a complement to the in-person sessions and as a gift to participants—so they could grow the core strength that is essential FOR LIFE, and revisit their favorite routines on their own at home—with their families, friends, and foes!

Ultimately, my AB FAB Challenge improved member retention and engagement and became part of the studio’s quarterly promotional campaigns!

the LO FIVE Partner Abs Challenge

Course Description | the LO FIVE Partner Abs Challenge

The LO FIVE workout is guaranteed to cut DEEPER into your CORE and GENERATE INSTANT INTIMACY—and maybe sculpt a six pack or two! 

Why doing partner abs are better than doing them alone: 

  1. Core workouts are tough at the best of times, so why not partner up?

  2. Working out with a partner increases the intensity and motivation.

    A study at Kansas State University found that exercising with a partner can double your performance. It also showed that an accountability buddy even influences the duration of the workout, motivating you to work out twice as long.

    Sometimes, two are truly better than one.

  3. Psychologists have also found that attraction and arousal also increase when working out with your significant other.

    According to a recent study, couples who work out together feel “more satisfied with their relationships and more in love with their partner.”

    Win-win!

Why I Designed This eLearning Asset

In my 20+ years’ experience as a fitness coach, I noticed that most people don’t know how to grow core strength, and/or know how but are lacking the motivation to do so.

My solution: to make core workouts FUN, and an opportunity to CONNECT and grow COMMUNITY and build TRUST.

Originally, I shared three partner abdominal exercises at the end of each workout.

I designed this eLearning course as a complement to the in-person sessions and as a gift to participants—so they could grow the core strength that is essential FOR LIFE, and revisit their favorite moves on their own at home—with their families, friends, and foes!

Ultimately, my LO FIVE Workouts improved member retention and engagement and became part of the studio’s quarterly promotional campaigns!
